Pirch was the future of retailing…until it wasn’t. The kitchen and bath specialty retailer, which had ten stores at its peak on both coasts, brought a new dynamic to a business dominated by big boxes and stack’em-and-rack’em local dealers. Displays were sophisticated, the water in the sinks and tubs actually ran and the appliances were plugged in and worked. Unfortunately, Pirch’s business model did not. With other — sorry to use the word — experiential retailers like Showfields and Neighborhood Goods also failing, are we seeing the end of this once-promising retail format?
