There are maybe 20 full-line Sears stores left in the country. Add in another 16 or so Kmarts…and contrast that to the 3500 locations the two chains had when Eddie Lampert took them over less than two decades ago. But now the successor company — Transformco — is saying this is all by plan and that its small-format stores under the Hometown and Home & Life banners are its future. I can’t imagine anything more Stupid…unless it’s the people who continue to believe this ridiculous spin, only the latest in an agonizing series of nonsense that has resulted in a quarter of a million former employees losing their jobs. It’s beyond Stupid.
