
Looking back now, it’s clear that the retailing world missed the boat — at least the first sailing anyway — of e-commerce back in the early stages of the 2000s when it let Amazon get an enormous headstart. It’s been playing catch-up ever since. Now it appears the same thing is happening on automated, cashierless checkout technology in physical stores. Amazon is very far along on developing this format while everyone else has barely begun. It’s another case of legacy retailers being incredibly Stupid in recognizing the next big thing. Will they ever learn?
