Up On Lowe’s

This big home improvement chain continues to do a lot of very Smart things these days. Two recent examples: its hook-up with Petco to put pet product departments within some of its stores and now its latest home decor program, Origin21, which they debuted in a one-day-only art installation in the legendary west Texas town of Marfa. As stunts go it was a pretty good one, but more importantly it signifies the DIY retailer’s efforts to gain market share in the home furnishings sector, versus arch-rival Home Depot, but also against more established players in home furnishings like Bed Bath & Beyond, Walmart and Target. Give Lowe’s lots of credit for these two initiatives, they deserve it.
