Trying to localize each retail location while operating at efficiencies of scale has been the Holy Grail for big national retailers for just about forever. In the old days chains like JCPenney and Bed Bath & Beyond used it as the foundations for their merchandising strategies and it worked…until it didn’t. Now other retailers like Barnes & Noble, Zara and, to some extent, Macy’s, are digging it out of their bag of tricks and trying it again.
Proving once again that everything that’s old is new again. Check it all out: https://www.therobinreport.com/going-local-requires-more-than-a-strategy/
If that appears in Southern New Jersey PLEASE throw my hat in the ring to be apart of the team. I MISS the days before centralized buying and would love to live in the position again!
