A 700-store chain is being created right before our eyes but chances are very few of us realize it. Stage Stores, which has operated a hodgepodge collection of store nameplates — many in the department store channel — is converting all of them — 700 STORES — to off-price under the Gordmans name. It’s a gutsy, bet-the-farm strategy but while off-price is the only physical retailing space that is working it’s getting pretty crowded these days.
Smart plan or Stupid strategy? Here’s my take on Forbes.com: https://www.forbes.com/sites/warrenshoulberg/2020/01/29/stage-stores-betting-the-company-on-gordmans-off-price-format/#36e1ca1150b6
