The Check is Not in the Mail

Times are tough, we all get it. Every industry sector is experiencing unprecedented pressures on revenues, profits and, perhaps most of all, cash availability. It’s why the subject of retailers who aren’t paying their suppliers is especially tricky. Vendors need their retail customers to survive and live for another day. But they also need to get paid or they won’t make it either. In the meantime, the factories who make all this stuff back in Asia are in desperate need of getting what’s owed them too.

It’s a complicated food chain and the answers aren’t easy. Here’s a look at one part of the picture — retailers who are telling their vendors that they are just going to have to wait (as long as half a year!) to get paid — from my new Forbes.com post.
