It’s A Walmart World…Maybe?

It’s a valid question: Why has Walmart, the largest, most successful retailer in America been unable to duplicate its success overseas. Yes, it’s done well in Mexico and Latin America but in Europe and Asia its track record is decidedly less positive.

With the news that it has put its Asda unit back up for sale in the U.K. and a reset of its Indian businesses it is clearly trying to get its foreign act together. India remains the last great retail frontier and both local players and Amazon are racing Walmart for the inside rail in the marketplace there. Walmart can’t afford to lose here, it needs a growth engine somewhere as its U.S. business matures.
