There was nothing Stupid about Terence Conran…except maybe sometimes his business got bigger than he could manage. But when it came to design, to retailing home furnishings, to creating iconic restaurants on multiple continents and to being an inspiration to generations of people in the business, he was a one a kind. So his passing this weekend at age 88 is the end of an era, as they say, but what he created isn’t going away by any means.
I had the chance to meet and interview him several times over the past few decades and he was always fascinating, charming and quite sure he knew what he was doing…which he was.
