Christmas Tree Shops, the awkwardly named off-price retailer with 80 stores mostly on the East Coast, has a new owner and they have big plans for the chain. Previously part of the Bed Bath & Beyond stable of ill-fitting brands, CTS was bought by a husband and wife entrepreneurial duo, Marc and Pam Salkovitz and their Handil Holdings. It’s a third life for the retailer — BBB bought it years ago from its original founders — and a chance for it to get out from under some neglect and overshadowing. That said, it faces a highly competitive market sector and without e-commerce it will be challenged to meet today’s shopping landscape. Still, it could be a Smart purchase as the new owners have a good retail pedigree and the right ideas about what to do.
Let’s see how it goes, but read this Christmas tale in my new Forbes.com post: https://www.forbes.com/sites/warrenshoulberg/2020/12/22/christmas-tree-shops-new-owners—post-bed-bath–beyond—unwrap-their-purchase/?sh=5b2bf00c7308
