Designer Virgil Abloh’s passing this week was an unexpected shock…much like the person he was. His creations in both the home and apparel spaces were often controversial as he believed in the “three percent rule” which said take an existing design or product and alter it by only that percentage and you’ve got something completely different. If it sounds a bit like Andy Warhol, the comparisons are not unwarranted. But Abloh was growing in importance until his death, taking a high profile role with luxury house LMVH. In home, he worked with companies as varied as 1stDibs.com and Ikea.
Understanding his legacy is tough. Here’s my take in Business of Home: https://businessofhome.com/articles/virgil-abloh-s-legacy-in-home
