Don’t look now but we may be entering the beginning of a new era in the retail business where automated, just-walk-out stores and vending machines dispensing all manner of goodies are starting to move into the mainstream. With at least four million retail salesperson jobs in the country right now being vulnerable, this could be a major transformation of the business. Stores not paying attention to all of this are Stupid…but stores going totally automated may be even Stupider.
