
The current state of the home furnishings retailing sector is what we would call “t’aint”: t’aint booming but t’aint exactly a complete bust either. Certainly the business is not explosive like it was during the pandemic but it’s not a total disaster either. That said, recent reports from the big home improvement boys and a few others in the off-price space would seem to indicate it’s not going to get all that much better for the foreseeable future. But here’s the trick: compare 23 numbers to 19 results and things don’t look quite so bad. As in most things in life, it’s all about perception.
