Just when you thought there couldn’t possibly be anymore dollar-format stores in the country…
The big national brands — Dollar General, Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, Five Below and others — will open thousands of more stores just this year alone as American shoppers increasingly look to trade down and try to save some money. This comes as the pushback against these type of stores is getting a little more vocal…though it’s relative given the scale of the openings surge. The fact of the matter is that dollar-type stores are a bigger part of the retail picture than they’ve ever been. We even found a small town in Tennessee that has six of them, one for every couple of hundred residents.
